Common Cold MYTHS!

suddenly felt so enthusiastic about this topic... LOL well... im actually writing an article about it.. not very gud in writing la actually but... haha.. wanna learn some skill of writing... so...try try lor.. and surpose to pass it up to poh xuan ytd.... xD sorry late... will pass to u today k? cuz there are some facts which are not proven, so took me some time just to find out and comfirm about them.. anyway, is COMMON COLD... ^^ i just had it last week.. =.=" is so common that even some times we dont even bother to care about it.. well... now there is some facts and myth to consider...

Medical Myths!!

1. Weather can causes us to have common cold or flu, Myth or Fact?
MYTH
. Studies have been done showing that people who stay in the cold weather country have same average numbers of people having flu as the people staying in hot weather country. there are some seasons of flu is because of the exposure of the normal person to a sick person. This may be due to closer contact with people in a close room or area with common cold is more frequent for a normal person during the cold weather.

2. Taking antibiotics cures my flu, myth or fact?
MYTH
. antibiotics is to kill bacteria but flu is caused by virus. it do not help to cure the flu. However, antibiotics can be used to treat the complications of the common cold, such as bronchitis, sinusitis, but these complications are rare. Overuse of these antibiotics will not only lead to bacteria resistance but also kills the health bacterias in the body.

3. Does taking vitamin C helps in my flu, myth or fact?
high doses of vitamins can help to increase the body's immune system but until today, it is still not proven that it can cure common cold. Linus Pauling a nobel price winner found out that taking 1-5g of vitamins per day can help prevent common cold and 15g per day can help cure common cold. However, taking vitamins is just an indirect approach to cure common cold, until today, there is no prove that vitamins can cure common cold. in fact, taking high doses of vitamins may cause toxicity to the body such as diarrhea.

4. Feed a cold; starve a fever, a myth or a fact?
MYTH. forcing urself to eat alot does not helps the body to fight the flu. indirectly it will increase the body's immune system but it will not cure the flu. It is very important to get hydrated and drink sufficient amount of water to keep the body in good conditions because the body will lose a lot of fluid when infected.

5. Hot chicken soup, hot fluids help my flu condition, myth or fact?
FACT.
It may temporarily relieve symptoms of congestions but it is not effective. the hot steam or the fluid will ease the condition of the infection by clearing the nasal cavity.
